What to expect
The difference is the process and the skills that are learned at The Sound Reader. Learning to read is a challenging process that the human brain is not naturally wired to do. This necessitates a targeted and rigorous approach in order for learning to be deep and meaningful. Understanding the sounds of the English language, and how those are put together to form words.
The Process
1st Meeting
- Review child's history and background with parents
- Administer initial assessment of basic reading skills
- Review first impressions of the assessment
- Discuss expectations
Between First & Second Meeting
- I will do an in-depth analysis of the data generated from the initial assessment
- develop 2 to 3 goals to target over the next 8 lessons
- create an individualized lesson plan for your child
Subsequent Lessons
- We will discuss the results and new goals after every assessment
- Lessons are typically structured in the following manner
- Phonological Awareness practice
- Phonemic Awareness / Phonics instruction
- Focused reading that targets the phonics skills that we are practicing
- At the end of each lesson, reading materials will be provided to reinforce these skills at home
